A 19 year old man has been charged following a serious assault in central Christchurch last week.

Detective Sergeant Ben Rolton said police were called to Worcester Street about 10pm on Thursday 19 March after reports a person had suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition and remained in a stable condition.

Police spoke with a 19 year old man this morning in relation to the incident.

He has been charged with injuring with intent to injure and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today.

Rolton said police appreciated the help from members of the public who came forward with information and provided CCTV footage.
