Man fighting for life after emergency surgery following violent Northcote incident

A man is fighting for his life after a suspected gang related altercation in Northcote last night left four people injured.

Emergency services were called to a house on Hoani Street at 9.30pm.

Three ambulances, three rapid response units and four operations managers attended, a St John spokesman said.

Canterbury Police District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill said one person was in a critical condition, with another suffering serious injuries.

Two others received either minor or moderate injuries.

“Cordons remain in place this morning while a scene examination is carried out, and our enquiries are ongoing,” Superintendent Hill said.

Hill said police want to speak to anyone in the area who may have witnessed anything around the time of the incident.

The man, who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, underwent emergency surgery overnight and remains in a critical condition, chrislynchmedia.com understands.

It is understood he was stabbed and shot, however police have not confirmed the extent of his injuries.

A neighbour near the scene told chrislynchmedia.com he heard a car screeching down the street just minutes before police arrived.

Another person said they heard what they described as a loud commotion and yelling coming from the house.

Police have not yet made any arrests.
