A man has been seriously injured in a fight at the Racecourse Hotel in Sockburn.

Multiple police officers were called to the venue at 9.20pm following reports of a fight involving several people.

Fire and Emergency crews were also sent to the scene but were later stood down.

Police blocked off part of Racecourse Road while officers worked to establish what happened.

A St John spokesperson said they responded with multiple vehicles.

The man was assessed at the scene before being transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.

The hotel has been approached for comment.
