Orana Wildlife Park is preparing to celebrate 15 years of festive fun with its much loved annual Festive Fun Day.
The popular event will take place on Wednesday and is expected to bring plenty of Christmas cheer for both visitors and animals.
For the past 15 years, the Festive Fun Day has become a highlight on the park’s calendar, with animals receiving specially created festive enrichment treats to unwrap throughout the day. The treats are designed by Orana’s animal care team to encourage natural behaviours while adding a seasonal twist.
Visitors can expect to see a range of creative and entertaining moments, from swinging siamangs and curious kea to giraffes getting in on the festive spirit. Santa’s reindeer have also made an early appearance, with nine hidden around the park for visitors to spot before Christmas Eve.
Chief Executive Rachel Haydon said she was looking forward to experiencing the event for the first time.
“This event is a favourite for the team. I am excited to bring my family along to experience some pre Christmas cheer,” Haydon said.
“I have been blown away by the creativity of our team and how they bring the magic of Christmas alive for our animals and visitors. It is a wonderful way to share the spirit of the season and celebrate the amazing animals we care for.”
Haydon said the Festive Fun Day was a fitting way to close out a milestone year for the park.
“This year has been significant for Orana Wildlife Park. We have commenced work with internationally renowned zoo architects Studio Hanson Roberts to develop the park’s first ever masterplan, and we are currently hosting National Geographic’s The Greatest Wildlife Photographs exhibition.”
The exhibition, which features more than 70 images showcasing nature and wildlife, remains on display at the park until 30 April 2026.
“As we wrap up an incredible year, we want to thank our community for their amazing support and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season,” Haydon said.
Orana Wildlife Park is closed on Christmas Day and reopens on Boxing Day.
National Geographic’s The Greatest Wildlife Photographs exhibition continues until 30 April 2026.
