Tangata Atumotu Trust has marked a major milestone, celebrating 25 years of service to Pasifika communities in Christchurch.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was held at the Aldersgate Centre last month, bringing together community leaders, partner organisations, Members of Parliament, and Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger to honour the trust’s contribution to health, wellbeing, and cultural support.

Tangata Atumotu Trust was founded in 2000 by a group of Samoan nurses who recognised the need for culturally specific care within the health system.

What began as a small community initiative has grown into a leading Pasifika led health and social service provider, now delivering more than 20 programmes supporting mental health, family wellbeing, youth development, and cultural connection.

Two of the founding nurses attended the celebration and were acknowledged for their courage and vision in establishing the organisation.

Board chair Tanya McCall said the milestone reflected far more than the passing of time.

“This anniversary is a testament to the voices uplifted, the futures shaped, and the cultural values that continue to guide our work.”

Operations Manager Seiuli Tauamiti reflected on the organisation’s journey, drawing parallels with the perseverance and foresight of earlier generations, whose efforts were made not for themselves but for those who followed.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances from across the Pasifika community.

Traditional songs and dances from the Tuvaluan community opened the evening, followed by Samoan and Tongan performances celebrating unity and heritage. The Cook Islands community added energetic drumming and dance, bringing the celebration to life and reflecting the cultural richness at the heart of Tangata Atumotu Trust’s work.

Chief Executive Carmen Collie Tuipulotu said the organisation remained focused on growth, innovation, and long term sustainability.

“Tangata Atumotu Trust stands as a beacon of strength and hope,” she said. “We remain committed to empowering families, strengthening communities, and building partnerships that support collective wellbeing.”

The trust also reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside local iwi and other community providers, with a focus on collaboration and shared outcomes.

The celebration concluded with acknowledgements to funders, partners, and staff whose dedication and commitment have driven the organisation forward over the past 25 years.
