Christchurch police have cordoned off  several streets in Phillipstown this afternoon.

A spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com police were responding to a report of a person making threats at a property on Olliviers Road before leaving the area at around 12.25PM.

St John crews were also near the road and a spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com the situation was still active at 2PM so they could not comment further.

A local resident said police were stopping vehicles from entering Olliviers Road and stopping people from leaving the cordoned area.

A nearby block including Marlborough Street, Clive Street and Havelock Street were also blocked off by police according to a resident.
