A person was taken to hospital after a house fire on Barrington Street in Spreydon early this morning.
Fire and Emergency Shift Manager Lyn Crosson said firefighters were called to the scene about 12.30am following multiple reports of a house fire.
“Crews from Spreydon and Christchurch stations were initially sent, with reports of people out of the house,” Crosson said.
“When the first crew arrived, they reported the single-storey home was well alight and requested additional resources from Wigram and Ilam,” she said.
A police spokesperson said officers were called to assist Fire and Emergency.
Police were requested for traffic control and transported a person to hospital with moderate injuries.
The police spokesperson said the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the cause would be confirmed by Fire and Emergency investigators.
Firefighters remained at the property until about 3.30am.
