Christchurch police are investigating a suspicious fire in St Albans.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to Malvern Park about 9.30pm on Friday after a fire broke out in a building attached to the public toilets.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com officers also attended the scene.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze and a scene examination was carried out.

Police confirmed on Saturday morning that enquiries were ongoing.

Residents reported seeing a police photographer at the scene, along with several detectives.

“The circumstances of the fire are still under investigation,” the spokeswoman said.
