A Hornby High School student known for his selfless dedication to the community has been recognised with the Coupland’s Bakeries Community Award.
EJ Coffin, a Year 13 student, was nominated by Great Hornby Residents Association member Louise Wooley, who described him as “one of the most inspirational young people I have ever met.”
Coffin serves as a student board representative, school prefect, Stars Peer Mentor through the Graeme Dingle Foundation, volleyball coach, and an active member of the school’s broadcasting club.
Outside of school, he is equally committed to community service. Coffin is a sergeant in the New Zealand Cadets No. 17 Squadron, a senior altar server at Our Lady of Victory Church, a participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and a dedicated volunteer for the Greater Hornby Residents Association, regularly assisting at local events.
“Despite his many roles, EJ remains humble, kind, and always ready to lend a hand,” Wooley said. “His generosity, leadership, and dedication to serving others make him a true community-minded role model.”
She said the award was a fitting tribute to a young man who has given countless hours to helping others and making a positive impact.
The Coupland’s Bakeries Community Award recognises individuals who go above and beyond to support their local community.
