A noise control officer was assaulted while responding to a complaint in Woolston on Tuesday night.
A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com police were called to the incident at around 10.20pm.
She confirmed the victim was a noise control officer who had gone to the property following a noise complaint.
He sustained moderate injuries, she said.
The offender fled before police arrived and has not yet been identified.
A St John spokesman said they were notified the incident, responding with an ambulance, but it was stood down by police en-route as it was not required on scene.
The Christchurch City Council’s Head of Facilities and Property Bruce Rendall said “we were advised that a contracted noise control officer was assaulted last night when following up on a noise complaint relating to a residential property in Woolston.
“We understand the officer sustained moderate injuries when he arrived at the property. We cannot provide any further information as this is now a police investigation.
“It’s concerning that the officer was assaulted while doing his job, and we wish him a speedy recovery” Rendall said.
