Enable says the majority of Christchurch internet outages should be resolved by the end of today following days of disruption for internet users.

In a statement, on Thursday, the fibre network operator said its team had identified a potential fix, tested it overnight, and successfully restored 30 percent of affected services.

“A structured rollout across all affected services will take place today,” the company said. “The intent is to have the majority of affected services restored by the end of the day.”

Enable confirmed the issue has impacted 0.3 percent of its network, affecting customers across the city who rely on stable fibre for work and home use.

An internet analysis estimated that at least 6000 users were affected.

The company said it understood the inconvenience the disruption had caused and apologised to customers, saying restoring services remained the number one priority.

However, plenty of customers from a range of internet providers contacted Chris Lynch Media frustrated they had been without services for days, with some describing communication from Enable as almost non-existent.

No one from Sky Broadband, 2degrees or Mercury returned requests for comment.

Spark said its network was fine.

One NZ said it had received complaints and confirmed the outages were related to Enable’s fibre network.

“If you’re experiencing a service outage, please contact your Internet Service Provider. They’ll log a fault with us which will help to ensure your connection is reinstated when the issue is resolved,” Enable said.

The company has not specified the cause of the disruption. Further updates will be shared on its website.
