Emergency services responded to a medical incident in New Brighton this morning.
A St John spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com they were notified of the incident on Marine Parade at 8.19am.
One ambulance and a rapid response unit were sent to the scene.
A witness reported seeing four police cars near the New Brighton Surf Club, where a person was wrapped in a blanket.
St John said one patient in a serious condition was transported to Christchurch Hospital.
