A popular Christchurch café has closed its doors after going into liquidation.

London Canteen, located inside Oderings Garden Centre in Barrington, confirmed the closure in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Owners Simon Suffolk and Julie Han said it was with “heavy hearts” that they had made the decision to shut the business.

“This has been an incredibly difficult decision, and not one we ever imagined having to make so soon,” they said.

“We’ve poured our hearts into this space, from the food to the atmosphere to the people, and we’re so proud of what we created.

“But due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we’ve made the hard choice to begin the process of liquidation and close the business.”

“Your loyalty and love have meant everything. We’ve been humbled by the community that gathered around us and we will carry the memories, connections, and creativity into what comes next.”

The owners said they would be contacting customers with future bookings in the coming days.
