A person has been injured after a truck rolled on the grounds of Christchurch Men’s Prison this afternoon.
Police told chrislynchmedia.com they were alerted to the single vehicle crash around 2.50pm.
The truck’s sole occupant was extracted by Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews.
A St John spokesman said one ambulance and a rapid response unit were sent to the scene.
The person was assessed on-site and taken to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.
A Corrections spokeswoman confirmed the incident involved an external contractor and their vehicle.
“No Corrections staff or prisoners were involved,” she said.
“Fire and ambulance services and additional staff were on site, and Corrections staff assisted them with the response as required.
“The incident is isolated and there is no risk to the safety and security of the prison, which is operating as normal.”
