Christchurch driver Connie McKay had a night to remember at the Ruapuna Speedway CSA (Christchurch Speedway Association) Awards, walking away with multiple top honours after a standout season on the track.
McKay was named Rookie of the Year in the highly competitive Modified Sprint class, a category that featured strong contenders.
In an emotional reflection, McKay said she was “speechless” after receiving the award.

Adding to the accolades, McKay also took home the Best Presented award and the prestigious Sportsman of the Year title, at the awards ceremony at Hornby Club on Sunday night.
“I had so much fun all season and this is just the cherry on top,” she said. “I didn’t expect this at all.”
McKay thanked those who supported her throughout the racing season, including Quinton McKay, Clay Pohio, Connor Dolan, Logan Austin, Laura-Lee Webb, Jeannette McKay, and others who contributed behind the scenes.
She also acknowledged Ruapuna Speedway for hosting the awards event, and paid tribute to Harris Signs & Graphix and Motorsport Files for their support and photography during the season.
McKay’s racing efforts were backed by a range of sponsors, including Spray Marks, Arbor-Tek Limited, Airpark Canterbury Limited, Gilmour Motors Suzuki, Ryno Power New Zealand, HPE Automotive Services, and several local businesses such as McKay Motorbodies and Finesse Beauty Boutique.
The CSA Awards celebrated the end of the season, recognising achievements across multiple racing divisions at the popular Christchurch motorsport venue.
