Selwyn District remains under a local state of emergency this morning, despite the worst of the weather now passing.

Selwyn District Council said its Emergency Operations Centre remains active and is continuing to monitor river levels and other potential issues across the district.

While conditions have improved, several roads are still closed or affected by surface flooding.

Key roads impacted include:

  • Springs Road between Boundary Road and Tancreds Road

  • Leeston Road / Drain Road

  • Goulds Road

  • Old Tai Tapu Road between Tai Tapu Domain and Early Valley Road

The State Highway 1 bridge at the Selwyn River remains open, with NZTA actively monitoring the area.

The Council urged drivers to take care and travel only if necessary, reminding the public to drive to the conditions.

Parents are advised to check directly with their local schools for the latest updates on closures or changes to the school day.
