A van has flipped onto its side following a single-vehicle crash on Wainoni Road, Avondale.

The incident occurred at 2.10pm, causing a power pole to snap from the impact.

A St John spokesperson said one person was assessed at the scene and transported to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.

The road was closed for a period of time while Police managed the scene and assessed the damage to the power pole.

Motorists in the area have been told to experience delays.
