Man charged following violent road rage in Christchurch

A road rage altercation that erupted into violence on Blenheim Road has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man.

The incident, captured on camera, occurred near Deans Ave and was widely circulated.

The video, shared with Chris Lynch Media, shows a man assaulting a driver.

The confrontation took place at 8AM on Monday and lasted around a minute and a half.

An eyewitnesses described the altercation as “sudden and intense” with the driver, being repeatedly punched before exiting his vehicle to confront his assailant.

The assaulted driver can be heard loudly questioning the reason for the attack, before the alleged offender backs off.

Police confirmed a man required hospital treatment following the attack.

An anonymous source identified the alleged attacker, leading to swift action by police.

A spokesman confirmed that a 29-year-old man had been charged with Intent to Injure.

He is scheduled to appear in the Christchurch District Court on January 30th.
