A severely underweight dog and her puppies have been rescued from a local property.
Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue director Abbey van der Plas told Chris Lynch an animal control team was doing a routine registration check when they come across the dog and her six puppies.
Concerned for their welfare, they immediately asked the owner to sign her over, which he did.
Abby said “the dog is completely emaciated, and has a body score of 1 (scale 1-9)

The dog and her puppies arrived at the Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue centre on Thursday.
In an earlier Facebook Post, Abbey wrote “it is normal for dogs to lose a little weight while feeding, but this is straight starvation. Every ounce of energy she had has been keeping her babies alive.”
“Despite humans treating her like trash, she is a sweet loving girl who just loves a snuggle.”

Abby said it was the same old story she’s heard time and time again.
The owner told the animal control team that the dog got lumped with him from someone else, and he didn’t know what to do.

“I don’t buy that excuse. It’s pure neglect. There are rescue centres including the SPCA, community groups in every part of the country who would have helped in a situation like this if asked” Abby said.
The dog has been named Ladi after Ladi6 “our fav Christchurch wahine” Abby said.

“We are looking forward to watching her get healthy and thrive and find her home she and her babies deserve.”
Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue is asking for donations to help the new family out.
