The public is being warned about a text message scam active in New Zealand.
New Zealand Police say the scam is an SMS phishing campaign.
“Messages indicate you’ve received a notification from your bank and ask you to click a link and complete a transfer payment. If you receive any suspicious text messages, do not click any links included in the message.”
Report the text spam for free by forwarding the message to 7726.
Genuine banks or organisations never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account.
“If you are in any doubt about a message, contact your bank directly to confirm before clicking any links.”
If you’ve been a victim of a scam you can contact CERT NZ at cert.govt.nz or call 0800 2378 69 for advice and support.
