A man has been rescued by police after locking himself in the boot of a car in Linwood.

An eyewitness told Chris Lynch Media she were walking along Butterfield Avenue this afternoon when she heard someone banging from inside the boot of a vehicle, parked on the side of the road.

“I was on the opposite side and saw the car and I thought I could hear something.

“I didn’t think much of it and kept walking. But it got louder. As I was looking around a police officer on the motorcycle pulled over next to the car and he could hear the banging.

“He got off his bike banged on the boot and said “how’d you get in there mate?” then the second police car arrived” the witness said.

“I carried on walking. As I came back from the school pick up, a man was in an ambulance getting checked out and the police were talking to more people near the scene” the witness said.

“The police had to smash the window of the car to open the boot as the car was also locked.”

A police spokesman said police conducted enquiries and spoke to the person involved, and after speaking with the male this has been deemed not to be criminal. (He shut himself in the boot)

A St John spokeswoman said they responded with an ambulance.

“Our ambulance officers have treated one patient in a moderate condition” the spokeswoman said.
