Higher than normal tides are forecast from Wednesday 18 May to Saturday 21 May with the highest tide currently forecast for Thursday evening.

The Christchurch City Council said contractors are aware and prepared, but there may be some flooding on roads around Opawa and New Brighton.

The council is urging residents to report issues directly to contractors via the Snap Send Solve app or call the contact centre on 03 941 8999.

The Metservice has a Strong Wind Watch from midnight Wed, 18 May – 1pm Thu, 19 May for the Canterbury High Country.
