Residents “Terrorised and afraid” following gang related stabbing in Christchurch

Two people have received serious injuries after what’s believed to be a gang related stabbing in Christchurch overnight.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch police were notified of a disorder involving a large group of people on Gloucester Street around 12:15AM.

Two people were injured and transported to hospital.

A scene guard was in place overnight and Police will be making further enquiries into the incident to understand what happened.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said they responded with one ambulance to an incident.

“We assessed and treated two patients with serious injuries who were transported to Christchurch hospital.”

A neighbour told Chris Lynch two people were stabbed in a gang fight at a social housing complex.

She said “Otautahi Trust has ignored anti-social behaviour for months and left us tenants feeling terrorised and afraid.”

Another resident said he woke up to hear a lot of noise outside. The group looked about 15 years of age he said.

Otautahi Trust was approached for comment but told Chris Lynch their media person didn’t work on weekends.

Police said they weren’t in a position to comment further on the incident.
