Fire crews respond to reports of smoke near Port Hills

Firefighting teams have been investigating smoke in the vicinity of the Christchurch Port Hills.

Local residents expressed worry upon noticing smoke emanating from the area.

A number of Fire and Emergency units were actively trying to find the source of the smoke.

Observations of smoke were recorded in the Hillsborough, Cashmere, and Port Hills.

Preliminary information suggested the smoke may be attributed to a controlled burn.

The areas previously affected by fires on the Port Hills are reportedly not the source of the current smoke.

Firefighters from Governors Bay reported seeing a “haze” near the Sign of the Bellbird, but there’s been no sightings of fire.
