Wilsons Barrington Pharmacy is set to close this Friday for the last time.

The family owned pharmacy was founded by Stan and Jocelyn Wilson on the 9th March 1956, who both later retired in 1978.

The pharmacy has continued with family traditional services by second generation head pharmacist and owner, Bevan Wilson.

Located in Barrington Mall, the shop has been an important service for the local community.

The pharmacy is one of the oldest independently owned pharmacists in Christchurch.

Bevan Wilson says that at 72 years old, he has decided to retire and take a well earned break.

On a Facebook post, the pharmacy has thanked loyal customers for their support over the years.

“Bevan and the team want to thank you for your loyalty and support over the years. You all will be remembered and greatly missed.

“To all of the ex staff that worked with and for Bevan over the many years. I know he would love to hear from you.

“And to all of our amazing customers that have been a part of the Wilson’s family I also know he would appreciate you popping in to wish him well and also the staff would too.”

People have been quick to express their gratitude for the pharmacy, with multiple customers telling Chris Lynch Media they are sad to hear about the closure, but wishing Bevan all the best in retirement.
