A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being struck by a car in central Christchurch.

A police spokesman said emergency services responded to vehicle vs pedestrian crash on the intersection of Fitzgerald and Bealey Avenue, around 5:20pm.

A vehicle was stationed in the middle of the road with a smashed windscreen and an electric scooter partially stuck under the front wheels.

The police spokesman said one person has serious injuries.

The road was blocked for a time and police enquiries are ongoing.
