A man has been taken into custody, following a report of a firearm being pointed at a person in Mairehau.

A police spokesman said armed police responded to the incident at 5:20pm on Briggs Road.

There were no injuries or shots fired.

The man was located at a premises on Innes Road a short time later where an imitation firearm was located and seized.

A 56-year-old man was taken into custody on charges of possession of an imitation firearm.

Further charges are being considered.
