Multiple fire crews at large fire in Banks Peninsula

Multiple Fire and Emergency crews at battling a large fire on the hillside near Wainui in Banks Peninsula.

A spokesperson said they currently have 10 appliances and support vehicles in attendance.

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions helicopter support is unavailable.

The size of the fire is unknown at this stage.

The Fire and Emergency spokesperson is urging “people to stay away from this area to allow crews to work to bring this fire under control in very difficult conditions.”
