Several people have reportedly died following a stabbing attack at Bondi Junction Westfield shopping centre before the knifeman was shot dead by police.

Multiple other shoppers have been injured in the attack, with the Westfield complex in Sydney's east, going into lockdown just before 4pm on Saturday.

Female police officer eliminated the man who stabbed multiple people while running through the shopping centre.

Footage has emerged of victims lying in pools of blood while police desperately try to save their lives.

A shopper was seen using a bollard from the shopping centre as a weapon to defend himself when he was faced with the knifeman on an escalator at Bondi Junction.

Two brothers described how they helped a mother and her baby, both of whom had been stabbed.

"The baby got stabbed," the two men told 9News.

"The mum got stabbed and the mum came over with the baby and threw it at me and (I) was holding the baby," he said.

The other witness said they were trying to compress the baby and stop the blood from coming out.
