Police spikes used in stolen vehicle incident in Shirley

A person has been arrested, while police hunt for others involved in a vehicle theft, and dangerous driving, near the Palms Shopping Centre.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch a stolen vehicle travelling at excess speed was reported on Hampshire Street about 11.30am.

“Police have picked up observation of the vehicle again later and it has been spiked about 1.30pm.”

The spokeswoman said it was abandoned by Marshland Road and one person has been taken into custody.

Police are still working to locate two further individuals.

Several police cars were searching for the remaining offenders who ran into the golf course off Golf Links Road.

A police dog handler was helping to search for the other offenders and was seen searching the backyards of several properties.

In an unrelated incident, police were called to an incident at Shirley library where two people had been fighting.

There were no serious injuries and an ambulance was declined.
