Council warning Waimakariri residents with heavy rain expected

File

MetService has issued a heavy rain advisory for the Waimakariri district from Tuesday night onwards.

A Council spokesperson said the district was expecting periods of heavy rain through to Wednesday morning.

“The Council is keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and conditions but is not expecting any major issues.

“However, with potentially 50mm+ of rain predicted across an already wet district, the impact of this rainfall is unpredictable.  We are encouraging people to be prepared.

“You should expect some surface flooding across our roads and we will be monitoring rivers and waterways. Please drive to the conditions.

Please remember:

  • If it's flooded - forget it!

  • Stay home in extremely adverse conditions where possible

  • If you need to travel please drive to the conditions

  • Click here to see the status of roads across the District. Drivers should expect surface flooding and drive safely

  • Clean out gutters and drains

  • Prepare sandbags if your home is prone to flooding.

Keep up to date with the MetService website.
