Tornado damages homes and buildings in Greymouth

The clean-up continues for Greymouth residents after a tornado ripped through part of the town last night.

Emergency services were called out to multiple jobs just after 11PM to assist people affected by the tornado

A local told Chris Lynch Media that the twister “demolished a building” which was already damaged by a previous fire.

Flying debris damaged cars at Greenfield Motors on Tainui Street, and broke windows at the local Honda store.

Several houses were also damage on Turumaha Street.

Grey District Mayor Tania Gibson said “thankfully no one was hurt, but some buildings and businesses have been affected.

“Thinking of those today in the clean up. Thank you to the emergency services and the people involved overnight for your assistance.”
