Stuff to produce Newshub bulletin- but will you watch?

Stuff and Warner Bros Discovery have announced that Stuff will produce a nightly news bulletin to replace Newshub.

The Stuff-produced 6pm news will begin on Saturday 6 July.

The left-leaning news organisation reported it will broadcast an hour of news Monday to Friday with a 30 minute show on the weekend.

Stuff Owner and Publisher Sinead Boucher said “our proposal to WBD was to deliver high-quality news now and a news product for the future.

“We will look to innovate not replicate the 6 o’clock news, building on our expertise in digital audiences and engagement and our ability to deliver live and lively news 24/7 all over Aotearoa.”

Former New Zealand Herald Media commentator John Drinnan said “competition is good and there are still some solid talent at Newshub’s newsroom, who I’d hope will have senior editorial roles like Michael Morrah and Nick Trubridge.

“However, there are obvious questions about Stuff's abilities and ethics.

“Importantly, it comes at a stage when Stuff Owner Sinead Boucher needs to say who is backing Stuff through its huge debt.

“Stuff has adopted racist news values and restricted coverage of some viewpoints, particularly when Stuff continues to say “you can trust us.”
