Person dies in fire at Burnham Military Camp

A person has died following a house fire Burnham early this morning.

A police spokesman said emergency services were call the property on Toanui Street, around 2:10am.

Two people were transported to hospital in a moderate condition, and one person in a serious condition.

Fire appliances from Rolleston, Dunsandel, Kirwee, Lincoln, Wigram, Ilam, Christchurch city and Command Unit were called to the scene.

A scene guard is in place and enquiries into the circumstances of the fire are ongoing, the police spokesman said.

Challenge Service Station wrote on Facebook “a very sad morning for one of our Burnham Families.

“Our Heart and thoughts are with you all .

We are taking monetary donations for our local family for anything needed going forward. These will be held in trust for the family.

Burnham Community , this is the time to support each other and look out for one another . The true meaning of Community.”
