Kaiapoi Borough School set to celebrate 150 Years

Kaiapoi Borough School is gearing up to commemorate its 150-year history this November.

Established back in 1873, the school has since stood as a beacon of learning, catering to students from Year 0 to Year 8 a board member said.

“Built on core values of innovation, community, integrity, and respect, Kaiapoi Borough School has not just imparted education but has also played a pivotal role in crafting lifelong learners in partnership with whānau. Over the years, it's fostered wonderful students and families deeply rooted in the community.”

In anticipation of the grand 150th Jubilee, a dedicated team comprising school staff, board members, and the community, has been working tirelessly to orchestrate the two-day extravaganza.

And it's not just about the present. Delving into the past, photos spanning decades have been unearthed.

Among these treasures is a notable mention of Headmaster RJ Alexander.

Leading the school for 26 years, from 1879 until his untimely demise in 1905, his legacy endures.

To this day, a Kahawai senior school award - 'The Alexander Memorial Trophy Award' - is presented in his honour for General Excellence.

“Not only will attendees get to witness the school's evolution, but they will also reconnect with familiar faces and relive cherished memories.”
