Firefighters continue to battle large blaze in Waikari Valley

(08:05) Multiple firefighting crews continue to battling a large fire in Waikari Valley.

They were first alerted to the fire just after 8pm on Sunday.

15 crews, alongside a bulldozer, are fighting the fire.

Residents of Glenmark Drive and Shell Rock Road remain evacuated a spokesperson said.

There will be a community meeting for evacuated residents held at the Waipara Community Hall at 9am.

Crews have been working through the night to establish fire breaks.

Anyone whose life or safety is at risk should call 111.

If you feel unsafe at home you are advised to self evacuate.

Police are advising people in Waipara to follow directions of local emergency services.

Those evacuated are asked to register at a centre set up at Waipara Memorial Hall, even if you are not staying there tonight.
