Emergency services, particularly Fire and Emergency crews, have been kept busy battling the strong winds that have swept across Canterbury.

As of 9 pm, power was cut to Brooklands, Marshland, Ouruhia, Spencerville, Barrys Bay, French Farm, Tikao, and Wainui.

Power is out for a number of places across Canterbury

At 7.22PM crews were called to Gresford Street in Edgeware after power lines fell on top of a house.

Just before that, crews were called to a Mount Pleasant house to secure loose iron roofing. They were also called to a similar incident in Lincoln.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to a house on Chelsea Street in Linwood after smoke was seen coming from power lines.

Power lines were down on Leaver Terrace in North New Brighton earlier today, while a large tree branch snapped onto powerlines on Emmett Street in Shirley.

Emergency services were called to the Christchurch Akaroa Road in Duvauchelle after a fallen tree blocked the road.
